From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
